In search and rescue operations, teams work together, using various navigation tools in order to maintain accuracy in their assigned area. Ground-pounders, relying on their senses and their own two feet, actively search for clues to guide them to their destination.

What it takes…

Ground Team members play a crucial role in search and rescue operations. They are skilled navigators, well-versed in basic SAR techniques such as tracking, incident command, radio communication, and crime scene preservation. Completing the 80-hour Nevada County Search and Rescue training academy is the entry point for new searchers, and from there, many ground-pounders will continue adding to their Search and Rescue skills be joining specialty teams.
